A satchel of gambling winnings is in the Sound where a ferry approaching Port Ludlow ran a ground on Snake Rock. The owner of the satchel, thinking the ferry would sink, through the satchel overboard intending to follow and retrieve it. He was held back by fellow passengers and never recovered the satchel.
A "large fortune of money and jewels" was buried in the Hammond Orchard of Port Townsend by S.S. Buckley, but never recovered.
