Two prospectors traveling east with gold they had found in California, began arguing over the division of the bounty. When one of the two buried the gold without the other's knowledge, a gun battle ensued, and the one who buried the gold was killed. The survivor was never able to find the cache. The gold is thought to be buried close to their campsite near Hickison Summit at "The Peaks."
